Abstract
Until the 1980's, most computer-based applications were developed by professional information systems specialists. However, the development of the microcomputer and related user-friendly software, coupled with a substantial application backlog, initiated a strong trend towards end-user developed applications, or end-user computing.

While most firms have no formal policy regarding testing and documentation, their managers view this oversight as a potentially serious problem.
